  Going Green Saves Green  
  Water Drops Add Up  
  How many drops are in 10.7 million gallons of water?  According to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, it’s $142,000 worth. That’s how much water and money the hospital saves each year thanks to its successful “Water Drops” program.

  Going Green Together  
  Healthier Eating for People and the Planet  
  Dining in LMA hospitals, schools and businesses is getting greener, and not just at the salad bar. A focus on sustainable dining has led to changes in menus, equipment, recycling practices, cleaning methods and food distributors. At least a dozen LMA organizations are pursuing green dining initiatives, and two, Winsor School and Sebastian’s Café at Harvard School of Public Health, have earned certification from the Green Restaurant Association.

  Saving Money in Waste Management  
  The LMA Waste Management group is making progress -- improving existing waste disposal programs, reducing solid waste, and saving money. Three LMA institutions have signed waste stream management contracts that are saving them between 13% and 35% on disposal costs.

  Winter Biking Workshops  
  More and more people are commuting to the LMA by bicycle. A surprising number of hardy riders even bike to the LMA year-round, and more are interested in joining their robust ranks.

  Departmental Bike Share Program  
  Thanks to MASCO’s CommuteWorks Departmental Bike Share Program, five departments from Beth Israel Deaconess, Children’s Hospital Boston, Dana-Farber/Partners and Harvard School of Public Health now have a convenient new option for work-related travel in the LMA -- departmental bicycles.
