| Saving Money in Waste Management | ||
The LMA waste management group is making progress -- improving existing waste disposal programs, reducing solid waste, and saving money. Three LMA institutions have signed waste management contracts with Waste Focus, LLC, and five others are negotiating contracts. Those with contracts are saving between 13% and 35% on their disposal costs.
The waste management group is continuing to work on expanding recycling services and options for institutional composting. MASCO and IRN, a recycling contractor, are developing a pilot program for recycling hospital “blue wrap” and planning a “weird waste” pick-up day for November. For more information about LMA waste management programs contact John Healey, jhealey@masco.harvard.edu. |
